I am honored to be working with NJPAC Arts Education Program for Teens for their end of year musical production of "Once On This Island, Jr" at the Black Box Theatre in Newark, NJ on Thursday, December 14th and Friday, December 15th, 2017. The great thing about doing this show was of course the amazingly talented teens. At the same time the Broadway version is up on Broadway. Inspired and created by Crystal Glass she designed bright vibrant looks the embraced the islands. The lead character TiMoune played by Diana and the entire cast was awesome. The detailed styling on the 4 gods was very interesting. Asaka, Mother earth was a handmade gown from scratch to a forrest inspired dress hand sewn with leaves and florals and a crown of vines. Agwe god of water was a cultvated mixture of fabrics, African printed robe, jeannie pants, and head piece, Papa Ge the evil character of death, wore black pants and vest with colored sash, with hat, and a sword to get his point across, Euralie god of love wore a princess gown, with floral headpiece. Stunning together on stage. The villagers, and gosippers wore muted neutral tones. What a great performance and opportunity to work with these amazing young people.
